This X-Cut Adhesion Test Kit is supplied with X-Cut Template (also known as X-Cut Gauge), assesses the adhesion of coating films by applying and removing pressure sensitive tape over cuts that are made using a knife to cut through the film. It is useful to test and determine whether the adhesion of a coating to a substrate is at an acceptable level. Acceptable test levels are given in operating manual.
The X-Cut Adhesion Gauge is typically used to perform adhesion testing on coating films greater than 125 micron / 5 mils. Easy to use and has been used in industry for many years to provide valuable adhesion information. Specimen preparation:
Sample area that is clean, dry, and free of imperfections.
Pre-test properties:
Using the X-Cut gauge take a cutting tool and follow the pattern of the X on the gauge using the cutting
tool.
Procedure:
Cut through the coating to the substrate in one steady motion. Verify that the cut went all the way through to the substrate. If not repeat X cut in a different location. Evaluate results of the test as indicated in ASTM D3359 (Method A). For ASTM D6677 method reference the as per operating manual.
