Ultrasonic Thickness Meter

Category: Coating Inspection, Ultrasonic Gauge

Caltech India is the leading manufacturer and supplier of CES 106 Ultrasonic Thickness Meter (UT Meter). Ultrasonic Thickness Tester is a precision instrument used to measure the thickness of solid materials without causing any damage to them. Hence it is also known as Non-Destructive Thickness Gauge or NDT Thickness Gauge (Non-Destructive Testing). Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge (UT Gauge) is widely employed in industries such as manufacturing, construction, aerospace, oil & gas, and shipbuilding for inspecting metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, and composite materials. Its primary purpose is to detect thinning, corrosion, erosion, or wear in components such as pipes, tanks, pressure vessels, and structural parts.

Material Thickness Gauge is an instrument used to apply the principle of ultrasonic pulse reflection to measure the thickness (or speed of sound) of ultrasonic good conductor materials, including: measuring the thickness of metal materials such as steel, iron, copper, or aluminum, and measuring the thickness of non-metallic materials such as plastic, ceramic, rock, or glass. Therefore, it is also called as Material Thickness Gauge.

The CES 106 Ultrasonic Thickness Meter range is 400mm with a maximum resolution of 0.01mm. When measuring, first set the material (or sound speed) of the measured object first, apply the coupling agent, and then fit the probe to the daub part, and the instrument can measure the thickness of the measured object. The Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement Device has a standard menu and data display interface for displaying both average, minimum, and maximum values. In addition, the instrument contains large-capacity memory. During the measurement process, the instrument can count and record the measurement results (restart can be query). Its standard probe, the line length of about 1 meter, can be operated in a narrow space or assembly line.

Applications:

An Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is widely used across industries for fast, accurate, and non-destructive measurement of material thickness. This advanced NDT instrument helps detect corrosion, erosion, and wear in critical components, ensuring safety, reliability, and quality control.

  1. Corrosion and Erosion Monitoring
Ultrasonic Thickness Meter are essential for checking wall thinning in pipes, tanks, boilers, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers. Industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, marine, and power plants rely on this device to detect internal corrosion without cutting or dismantling equipment.
  2. Industrial Maintenance and Safety Inspection
Used in preventive maintenance programs, UT Gauges help evaluate the structural condition of steel plates, machinery parts, storage tanks, and lifting equipment, reducing downtime and preventing unexpected failures.
  3. Manufacturing and Quality Control
In production lines, Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges ensure accurate and uniform thickness of metal sheets, plastic components, castings. This aids in achieving tight tolerances and maintaining product quality.
  4. Shipbuilding and Marine Industry
Used for inspecting ship hulls, decks, bulkheads, propeller shafts, and underwater structures, UT Gauges help assess corrosion levels and maintain seaworthiness, making them indispensable in marine inspections.
  5. Aerospace and Aviation
These meters measure the thickness of aircraft skin, fuselage panels, wings, and structural components, supporting safety audits and regulatory compliance in the aerospace sector.
  6. Automotive and Heavy Engineering
UT Gauges assist in inspecting engine blocks, chassis parts, gear housings, and pipes, ensuring durability and performance during manufacturing and maintenance.
  7. Chemical and Petrochemical Plants
Widely used for checking wall thickness in reactors, pipelines, storage tanks, and high-temperature process lines, helping detect corrosion in hazardous environments.
  8. Power Generation Industry
Power plants use Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges to examine boilers, turbines, steam lines, condensers, and pressure parts, reducing risk and improving operational efficiency.
  9. Plastic, Rubber, and Composite Industry
Ideal for measuring plastic containers, molded parts, fiberglass components, ensuring consistency in lightweight and high-strength materials.
  10. Construction and Civil Engineering
Used to inspect metal beams, structural steel, bridge components, and industrial structures, helping engineers assess remaining strength and service life.
